Arne Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's understandable for concerns to be raised about his position after a further heavy loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in 12 games, marking the team's poorest streak after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got plenty of support from above,” the coach commented.
“It would be great to turn it around and earn three points of course but if you are coaching a team and struggling then it's typical that people question you.”
He continued, “I accept my situation. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Club Management
When asked to elaborate on his conversations with the team officials, Slot revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “Through standard discussions I sense the trust. However I've not talked to them after this game yet so let’s see.”
Familiar Failings and Player Reaction
Slot expressed regret over known shortcomings from his squad in their European loss, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder stated.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It's difficult because I play for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a phase of this nature with results like these.”
He concluded, “But we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And until that badge is gone, we will always battle.”
“We’re going to try to get this team back to the top, show everyone once more the values of this club and why people call it the best team in the planet.”
“But right now, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
