The bowler's last Test for New Zealand was versus the English side in the final month of 2024.

England bowling consultant Southee is still working through what his involvement will be at the upcoming Ashes series in the host nation.

The former Kiwi seamer is expected to be present for the first Test due to his involvement in the ILT20 competition, which starts on December 2 in the UAE.

Southee, 36, assumed a position as England's fast bowling consultant in the summer after taking 391 scalps in 107 Tests for New Zealand.

Commenting as England's squad for the first of three Twenty20 games against the Kiwis was named, Southee stated of his participation: "We are still evaluating that at the present time.

"We will determine what happens over the coming days."

English pace icon Broad had stated the Australian team as their "worst team since 2010", but the consultant was in little doubt over the anticipated challenge during the contest, which starts on 21 November.

"I don't think there's at any time a poor Aussie side," Southee remarked.

"The team's attention is squarely on our own objectives. I think the quality of [the English] side that's going out to Australia is excellent.

"It ought to be an absolute cracker, the Ashes. Not just [are|do] fans from both nations eagerly anticipate it, I believe the entire cricketing community is."

But, before the English team travel to Perth for the first Ashes match, they face the Kiwis in the city of Christchurch on Saturday.
