Eulogies Pour In for the Reiners as Autopsy Reports Remain Under Wraps.
Over a fortnight after the tragic deaths of celebrated film director Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues continue to honor the duo.
Quoting a Classic: Cary Elwes Remembers His Director
Posting on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who was featured in Reiner's iconic movie *The Princess Bride*, mentioned he only now felt able to share openly about his personal sorrow.
"Sufficient time has passed that I can at last put my grief into words," wrote Elwes, adding that his initial encounter with Reiner made him fall in love. "Once we started passing more hours together I understood this was someone I longed to have in my life."
The actor shared archival material from the movie, remarking that he doesn't recollect "any day without joy".
"The film is about love, loyalty and sacrifice. Principles that Rob held dear. This is one of the many reasons he was the best person to helm it," Elwes expressed.
He also paid tribute Michele Reiner, saying: "To say that they were a formidable pair would be an understatement. My heart still aches every time I remember you." He ended with a quote from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."
Martin Scorsese Reflects on a Colleague and Comrade
In a separate essay, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese paid homage to Reiner, whom he originally knew in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a instant connection for each other. He was hilarious and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would command the room," Scorsese wrote.
Scorsese pointed out Reiner's acting part in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, playing the father of the main character.
"His improvisation skills with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked seamlessly with everyone, and he comprehended the emotional dilemma of his character," Scorsese added.
Court Proceedings: Autopsy Reports Restricted
In a new development, a Los Angeles judge decided to bar the disclosure of the Reiners' autopsy reports, after an appeal from the local authorities.
A court order put a security hold on the files to prohibit the public release of "any investigative information, notes, reports or photos" connected to the ongoing investigation.
The Medical Examiner's office had already determined their deaths were the outcome of homicide, with a official listing citing the cause as "wounds from an edged weapon".
Response and Criticism
In the wake of the killings, public figures shared varying comments.
Ex-President Donald Trump wrote on the matter, providing controversial claims that were met with immediate backlash by numerous public figures.
Podcaster Joe Rogan added his perspective to the detractors recently. Conversing on his program, Rogan described the remarks as "disappointing" and suggested they revealed a troubling deficiency of sympathy.
Rogan finished by remarking that an adviser ought to have intervened when the impulse to comment on the death was made.
