The Renowned Musician Encourages Backing to Get Palestinian Solidarity Song to UK Christmas No 1.
A campaign is aiming to send a traditional song from Palestine to the top of the UK charts. The campaign aims to deliver assistance to communities in Gaza while also spotlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
A Possibility for Support and an "Unlikely Coup"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a moment to show solidarity with Palestinians during the holidays. He remarked the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be fantastic if that occurred, yes,” he said. “I won't be completely disappointed if it doesn’t, holiday tracks are a thing unto themselves.”
Defiant Message of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the version of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's powerful central theme.
“It has a very special place for many individuals,” Barghouti explained. “The message is that I would prefer a dignified death than spend my life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we seek to lead a respectful existence that we merit as a people.”
Track's Background and Contributing Musicians
The track was produced after a solidarity show held in late summer. Originally intended to be captured during the live event, the performance was cut from the show due to scheduling overruns.
The notable list of artists appearing on Lullaby encompasses a range of prominent voices from the music world. All took part in the benefit event, which reportedly raised a significant sum for charitable causes.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was produced by a team of talented individuals. The track blends a mix of the traditional Arabic lyrics with contemporary English verses.
The group managing the project have clarified that their objective is to generate maximum funds for a dedicated fund. These proceeds will be distributed to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an non-profit partner.
“There is no a specific target,” a spokesperson explained. “We will pursue the maximum achievable. Naturally, the more the merrier. All proceeds are directed out to Gaza.”
The situation in the area was noted for its widespread damage, with a huge proportion of infrastructure described as destroyed or damaged.
“Given that reality, a couple of million won't make an enormous impact. But I think the significant factor is first of all making this cause better known and demonstrating the human dimension of the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is scheduled for release at the end of the week. Additionally, a full recording of the solidarity show will be made available for streaming on a major video platform from the 19th of December.
